They come
when least expected,
those thieves in the night
And it's just not right.
You work hard
and do your best
acquire CD's and all the rest.
Eight years
and never a locked door;
Then last night
they made a score.
Raided the van
and all it contained;
one hundred CD's in a case
and a zip drive newly repaired
gone as if they never existed.
Nothing else taken
the cell phone was safe
along with emergency funding
held tight in the ashtray;
Guess they don't like change
those thieves of the night.
Who are those thieves in the night?
They are Kids,
unsupervised
running about in the dark
when they should be at home
safe in bed.
Where are the parents?
Why do they not hold the young ones
accountable for new acquisitions,
and for their whereabouts?
Where are the parents,
when all of a sudden these kids
are flaunting a new CD collection
in a zippered leather folder?
Anger and frustration
overwhelm me
for there is no protection
from those thieves of the night!
